Afew days ago, I walked into a large book store in Jinnah Super Islamabad. I was astonished to see a book titled Londonistan. Having spent some prime years of my life as university student in London, I could not just walk away, rather decided to give it a shot. Londonistan is authored by Oxford educated Ms Melanie Phillips. She is convinced that one day London would become Islamic State of Londonistan. She claims that native Englishmen are only one tenth of the London population, which would reduce in the near future. Muslims are almost 1.6 million out of 60 million British population, making Islam the second-largest religion after Christianity. More people attend mosque than church in the British society. Melanie asks Britons to wake up to the realities of Islamic fundamentalism brewing in the heart of their land. She elaborates that the 7/7 bombers were home grown British Muslim boys under the influence of fundamentalists. She explains that Muslim community desires to spread its religion across the entire globe. Even though modern London is a mixture of different cultures and languages but more and more Muslims girls are adapting to the traditional hijab and burqa. She discusses the multicultural paralysis which is due to the incredibly diverse nature of the London population. She feels Muslim community is the only one to feel that they are being victimized, in reality it’s the native Britons like her who are being victimized. The incredible influx of immigrants from Asian and African Muslim countries have de-shaped the demographics that had been relatively stable for a thousand years. During my days in London, I use to say my Jumma Prayers at the nearest Mosque. A number of times, I had arguments with the British born young Muslim boys, who were distributing hatred pamphlets against the entire Western population and behaved as if they were in a state of war. I always tried to convince them not to generalize a community merely because of a handful of state backed terrorists but our arguments would usually end in me being bullied away. After all I was not a British and was only there for my studies, why would I make foes in a land where I was without my family. Before the start of Iraq War, over a million people gathered in London to protest against the War. I and a couple of my university friends (Pakistani students) went together to Hyde Park. When they saw river of protestors they chickened away as they were scared of being labeled as affiliates of protestors like Muslim Council of Britain, but I surely joined the million protestors to exhibit my concern over the action of Mr Bush. It all concluded peacefully but Mr Tony Blair was not convinced to leave his position as “Puddle of Mr Bush”. Melanie in her book is also generalizing Muslims, by dramatizing that if certain British Muslim boys were 7/7 bombers, all Muslim boys are potential hardliners/ terrorists. I think views of people like Melanie need to change. Someone should explain them that their act would result in a crusade between Muslims and Christians (which I remember was predicted by Naustardamus), resulting in loss of millions of tons of blood. Rather they should write against the action of Mr Bush in Iraq and Afghanistan, where millions of innocent people have been butchered under the orders of mighty Oil traders (explained in Fahrenheit 9/11). Why is United States sending more troops in Afghanistan? Melanie, how about writing another book titled “Kabulrican” i.e. Americanization of Kabul. Similarly, I have also spent a part of my life in Bradford mainly for my MBA. Bradford is labeled as Bradistan and even an Indian film “East is East” showed Bradford as Bradistan. Then we all know how different Council boards were tempered, changing Bradford into Bradistan. No one can forget the 2001 riots, whose clippings are still available on the YouTube. British National Party (BNP) was born in this part of UK, to chase Asian origin Muslims out of Yorkshire area. Last month, a large quantity of arms and ammunition was discovered by Police at an office of the BNP. Melanie, do you still feel, BNP’s existence is not against the minority Muslims. Only afew days ago, a body of a Pakistani origin Manchester trader was flown into his home town in NWFP, butchered by so called drunk Englishmen. Can police protect ordinary Muslim citizens of United Kingdom? What answer do you have? How about writing a book on Leeds taxi drivers, injured/ killed every weekend due to racial attacks by certain group of White people. I still remember one day, I was at the Leeds Town Centre at around 11:00pm with a couple of mates. A group of white males came near us and suddenly one of them started shouting towards me saying some words against Iraq. I simply replied with a smile as I was not an Iraqi and then we took train back home. Similarly, I went to Liverpool with my university mates. A number of cars stopped in my way and a whole list of abuses were thrown on me and my Asian mates. Here I would like to mention my stay in Bristol, there was not a single incident where I had to face anything like Leeds or Liverpool. I think Melanie should write about the treatment of minority by majority whites in different parts of the UK. I must emphasize here that some of the assets I made during my stay in UK are my lifelong white friends. Here, I conclude that as human beings we should learn to respect others religious beliefs and should not generalize deeds of certain humans with that of their community. Hitler generalized Jews because of deeds of some odd ones and initiated something known as Holocaust. Melanie and people like her are following on the footsteps of Hitler and generalizing Muslims as terrorists.
